The Architectural Studio has been selected as the project architect for several projects located in Bayou Segnette State Park, one of which is to provide replacement cabins for rental through the state park service.  This project  presented several unique challenges and required working with several state and federal government agencies. 

 

The construction of these 16 floating cabins is located inside of the US Army Corp of Engineers flood wall and had to be designed to deal with a number of issues.  These included fluctuating tides, a potential storm that might impact the area, exposure to brackish water, and Formosan termites. The cabins have been designed with a unique "cradle" foundation system.  The "cradle" system maintains a minimum floor elevation and allows the cabins to float in place during a tide and/or storm surge up to 14 feet to match the height of the flood wall.
